Joseph G. McGraw
Joseph G. McGraw is a graduate of the Scranton Preparatory School, a Jesuit Institution. He is a graduate of the University of Scranton and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Following his graduation form the University, Joseph matriculated to the Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

founded the law firm of McGraw, Peterson and Nepa which is now known as Nepa & McGraw, P.C. Attorney McGraw grew up around serious criminal defense, it is a family tradition.
While attending the University of Scranton, Attorney McGraw completed an internship with the Law Firm of Munley, Munley and Cartwright. While attending Law School Attorney McGraw interned at the family firm under the guidance of his Grandfather and Uncles. He also interned as a Clerk with the Honorable Judge Robert J. Conway, President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Wayne County. While in Law School, he earned a coveted spot within the Widener University School of Law Trial Advocacy Society. He completed the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. He also earned a certificate of Achievement for his performance at the National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition held at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Also, nearing the end of his time at Widener University School of Law, and eager to enter into the fray of criminal defense, Attorney McGraw began an internship with the Dauphin County Public Defender’s Office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. During this time, Attorney McGraw received a special certificate from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court that allowed him to begin practicing law while still in Law School. This allowed him to represent defendants through the Dauphin County Public Defender’s Office.
By the time Attorney McGraw earned his license to practice law he had earned an appreciation for the law and a deep respect for the principles of liberty and a awesome respect for the Constitution. Due to his aggressive and professional performance in the Dauphin County Courts he was hired as an Assistant Public Defender. This gave him an opportunity to hone his trial skills in the courtroom. It also exposed him to the guidance of some the most experienced, knowledgeable and aggressive criminal defense lawyers in the Commonwealth. He practiced under their tutelage. He vigorously defended his clients and earned a reputation for being a tough defender focused on upholding the values of the Bill of Rights.
Attorney McGraw returned to Northeastern Pennsylvania where he worked in the Lackawanna County Public Defender’s Office. Today, Attorney Joseph G. McGraw is a private practitioner focusing on the area of criminal defense. He is also a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
He is licensed to practice in all of Pennsylvania’s Courts as well as in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
He has won victory in jury trials. He has won suppression hearings. He has also demonstrated a winning appellate record in the Appellate Courts of the Commonwealth.
He regularly attends continuing legal education courses in the area of criminal and DUI defense. He firmly believes that legal education does not end in law school. The ever changing face of the law requires a vigorous effort to keep pace. He is a regular attendee of criminal defense seminars such as the Annual Criminal Law Symposium held in the State Capital each year as well as numerous courses produced by the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Attorney McGraw has a deep affinity for the area of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He has deep family roots in the area. And, he enjoys the friendliness of the people who live here. In addition to the appreciation for the people who inhabit northeastern Pennsylvania, and the company of his family, he also loves the outdoor opportunities that Northeastern Pennsylvania provides.
